Mililani Ike Elementary School, front lawn of Library facing playground square, 95-1330 Lehiwa Drive, Mililani, Hawaii, 96789
Owner:  Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts
Date:  2012, 2012
Placement:  schools (buildings)
Artwork Type:  sculpture (visual work)
Material:  stainless steel, concrete
Description:  The Pueo or owl is the school masccot. In Hawaiian mythology is is also an aumakua or protector. I tried to make this the departure point for the work rather than a realistic depiction of it. It gives the work a more modern feel of energy. This sculpture had to comply with stringent playground specs (no spacing larger than 3 inches and no choke points etc..)
