Description:  The sculpture is based on traditional historic Hawaiian structures. Historically social events, fishing rights, harvest, ceremonial gatherings, burial sites, or communal gatherings have incorporated free standing ceremonial structures that reflect the specific identity of the given gathering. The sculpture functions in this same context creating a sense of place and identity. The sculpture opening at the base is a ceremonial shelter or gateway that one engages with and passes through.
