Description:  In the 2012 to 2013 school year, over twenty students from East Chapel Hill High School worked with their art professor, Melissa Vrooman, and local artist, Carter Hubbard, to collectively design a work of art for the school's hallways. Through a process of journaling and discussion, the students chose a broad yet personal theme to explore through artwork: teenage existence. Seeking to develop a more nuanced view of their lives than they see reflected in popular culture, they decorated each tile using an encaustic process and found objects to literally and abstractly represent themselves as artists and individuals.
