Description:  For years I have been fascinated with the garden design of eighteenth centuryEurope. These fantasy environments combined urbanity with nature: their entire function was delight of heart and mind. In this tradition I have developed an assembly of curious steel and fabric silhouettes, all inspired by topiary designs from the Musee de Versailles. Like the garden follies planned as visual "events," the sculptural grouping invites pedestrian exploration. The work is both formal and informal, somber and bright, hard and soft. Thesilhouettes are human-scaled with distinctive personalities. The black meshsheathing produces a moire effect across the steel shapes and translucent leafyedges. Changing viewpoints reveal startling color, shape, and mood shifts.Underfoot a swirling path recalls the marble-work traceries of a grotto.
